Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Fumigation Delays

Forwarders involved in the onshore fumigation treatment of containers during in the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) season, or responsible for the cartage of those containers on behalf of clients, are experiencing  significant delays, including import document processing delays within the D department of Agriculture.

The delays will create container detention issues as the landside logistics chain is significantly affected.  ACF continues to negotiate with relevant shipping lines to seek an extension of free time before container detention fees apply.

Sailing schedule update concerning direct vessels from the USA West Coast to Australia and New Zealand

Please note that there have been changes to the direct service schedule from the US West Coast to Australia and New Zealand that will impact your customer’s supply chain.

We have enjoyed two vessel strings from the US West Coast for many years – one being the PNW fortnightly service calling on Seattle and working its way down to Oakland then Long Beach along with the PSW weekly sailing from Oakland then down to Long Beach.  Effective with the Melina V. 814 S sail date Nov 19 2018 the PNW service is no longer.  There will be one string starting in Oakland then Long Beach then Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne.

Earlier in October the vessel Walwa was not allowed to berth in Sydney and held anchored offshore due to high risk cargo that was not fumigated at origin (prior to the approval of onshore fumigation).  This has caused a key disruption to the vessel rotation that has led to a double sailing from Long Beach Nov 4 and Nov 6 with the next sailing on the 19th of November.

The net effect here: no sailing on November 12th (which would have arrived Auckland Nov 25, Sydney Nov 29, Melbourne Dec 2.

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company wishes to advise clients that, with effect from 15th November 2018 (Proforma sailing date), the number of authorised containers per Bill of Lading for all shipments from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam to Australia and New Zealand will be limited to 20 containers.
